I adore life drawing. For me, the subject of a human figure will always remain as the most exciting and inspirational thing, no matter what I will paint or draw. Often I’ve been asked; do I prefer to draw a model nude or dressed? Honestly… I prefer to draw people in their clothing. In this case the things that they wear offer an extra layer of protective skin to shield them from the ruthless eye of a drawer. I remember once in the Fine Arts Academy, we were drawing this old woman, who in order to prevent herself from falling asleep, kept telling us,students, some horror stories. I remember how the element of spookiness affected our pencil marks. Then I vividly recall her falling asleep; her breathing has changed, she stopped talking and her purse accidentally touched by her foot, fell off the podium and half of its inner belongings got spilt on the floor. Hush in landing, a pair of knitting sticks with some fluffy wool had lipstick tangled in it, while a tiny mirror with a few lolly pops landed more soundly. Also there were a few random photographs that at that moment appeared on the floor. I stood up and picked up one of those pictures. But as I tried to look closer, my fellow students started to shout at me that I have no right to intrude into the privacy of our model. With all that shouting around her, the model woke up and asked if I was trying to steal her hard earned money. I stood semi- laughing, though inside me was a serious thought; so when you try to depict someone on paper, you may as well depict not only what’s inside their purse but also trespass into their family album.
